According to investigators, the woman was brought from Romania to Austria about one year ago by a 33-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man. She was promised a job as a babysitter or au pair with a monthly payment of around €500.
After arriving in Vienna, she stated that the 49-year-old man sexually assaulted her and later forced her to provide sexual services. At first, she was allegedly sent to private apartments. After turning 18, she was required to work in a brothel. According to her statement, all income was taken by the suspect. Investigators estimate that up to €4,000 per month may have been generated.
She asked a brothel operator for help
The case became known after the woman asked a brothel operator in Vienna’s Donaustadt district for help. The operator contacted the police. The 49-year-old suspect was arrested in Vienna-Simmering and taken into custody. He denies the allegations.
A 33-year-old woman is also under investigation in connection with the case but remains free. Authorities are continuing the investigation into suspected forced prostitution and related offenses. The presumption of innocence applies.
Austria’s Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) has published a new report detailing how police monitor Vienna’s red-light scene to detect human trafficking and illegal prostitution. The report appears in the latest issue of the ministry’s public security magazine and offers insight into routine police operations, legal rules, and ongoing challenges.
According to the BMI, specialized officers from the Vienna State Criminal Police Office and the Federal Criminal Police regularly carry out targeted inspections in studios, brothels, and so-called “walk-in houses.” These checks are designed to ensure that sex work is voluntary and legal, while also identifying possible cases of exploitation or coercion.
Legal Prostitution and Strict Rules
The ministry stresses that prostitution is legal in Austria, but only under strict conditions. Sex workers must be adults, have legal residence status, and undergo regular medical examinations. In Vienna, this system is regulated by the Vienna Prostitution Act of 2011.
A key requirement is the so-called “green card,” an official control document issued by the city of Vienna.
It confirms that health checks are carried out every six weeks, with blood tests every twelve weeks.
According to the BMI, this legal framework is considered one of the most advanced in Europe and gives police clearer authority during inspections, including undercover investigations.
Police Focus on Trust and Observation
During inspections, officers check identity documents, residence papers, and health cards. Mobile technology allows them to scan documents on-site and immediately access databases, speeding up the process.
However, the BMI emphasizes that paperwork is only part of the job. Informal conversations with sex workers play a crucial role. Officers are trained to recognize signs of pressure, dependency, or fear. The goal, the report says, is protection rather than punishment. Police want sex workers to know they can seek help if they feel threatened or exploited.

Many services are now offered through online platforms, where clients contact women directly and arrange meetings in residential buildings.
While this may appear more discreet for clients, the BMI warns that it increases risks for sex workers.

A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Wednesday after admitting to acting as a pimp for underage girls in Vienna. He will serve six months behind bars, with the remaining 12 months suspended.
The case involved two teenage girls – one aged 15 and another aged 17 – who the man allegedly arranged to provide sexual services through online platforms last summer.
He meet the 15-year-old girl through a messaging app
The defendant first met the 15-year-old girl through a messaging app. The girl initially claimed to be 21 years old, then later said she was 18 when the man questioned her young appearance. The two began a sexual relationship.
During their relationship, the girl told him she had already been selling photos of herself online.
According to prosecutors, this gave the man the idea to have her work as a prostitute. He helped set her prices and created advertisements for her services.
The man also convinced the 15-year-old to recruit the 17-year-old girl so he could find clients for her as well.
The girls earned 2,700 euros, and they had to give half of it to the pimp
Prosecutors said the older girl earned 1,900 euros from four clients, while the 15-year-old received 800 euros for unprotected sex. Both girls allegedly had to give half their earnings to the man.
The defendant was also charged with rape and sexual coercion, but was found not guilty of these charges. The judge said the evidence showed the relationship was more like a love relationship rather than rape. She cited text messages the 15-year-old sent after the alleged assault, including “I miss you. I enjoyed having sex with you.”
The pimp first denied the charges
At his first court hearing in March, the man denied the pimping charges. But recently, he changed his plea and admitted guilt. He said to the court that he was very sorry for what happened. Unfortunately, he couldn’t undo it.
The man claimed he stopped everything once he learned the girl was actually underage.
Since the defendant had already served six months in jail while awaiting trial, he was released immediately after sentencing. The verdict is not yet final – both sides have time to appeal the decision.

The reason is that there was a strict one-child policy in mainland China, and because of it, the second and third children were often raised in secret. They are now basically non-existent in the system, without real official papers they are very vulnerable and can be targeted by human traffickers.

The Aargau police have rescued a young girl from Eastern Europe from a brothel, leading to the arrest of the brothel operator. In Tyrol, the Police had shed light on a new pimping case. They have arrested a 28-year-old Romanian guy for forcing at least four women into prostitution. The male in question was involved in other illegal activities as well. After the information got to the Austrian authorities, they immediately started looking for him.
They froze the two accounts the Romanian suspect had and then started to track him down. During the investigation in November, houses and apartments were thoroughly searched.
The Police Has Found What They Wanted, and Even More Than That
During those house searches, two of them particularly stood out. These were in Innsbruck and what the Police found there had incredible monetary value. They had found a total of 33,500 Euros in cash, 65 pairs of women’s shoes, and 70 grams of cocaine.
It is needless to say that they were more than surprised about the amount of shoes they found. However, they were absolutely stunned when it turned out that the whole women’s shoe collection is worth 26,000 Euros.
The Romanian guy surely had its own ways of doing business. All those shoes were stolen, as it was confirmed by the Police. They have also found the rightful owner, so we can say there were no stones unturned by the officials.
But What About the Illegal Prostitution Part?
During the searches, the Police had knocked on some doors and they found a few occupied rooms as well. They found three women who were actively providing sexual services to their clients. They caught the ladies in the act and labeled the case as illegal prostitution.
The story might not end there, as the investigation continues. So far, the Romanian suspect is facing charges related to drug possession and pimping.

A 31-year-old Romanian citizen is alleged to have forced a 20-year-old girl into prostitution, sexual coercion and physically injured her on several occasions. The case was presided over by judge Christian Braune in the Seventh Criminal Chamber at the Traunstein Regional Court.
The man has also been charged with drug offenses. The proceeding will be held on 29th October and 8th November at 9:15 a.m.
The pimp and woman knew each other from Romania
The woman and suspect knew each other from Romania. According to statement by Senior Public Prosecutor Dr. martin Freudling, the 31-year-old knew that the then 19-year-old had been working as a sex worker in the capital of Ireland, Dublin since 22nd January, 2021.
He approached her through Facebook and persuaded her to leave Ireland and start prostituting in Belgium.
The woman arrived in Antwerp in the beginning of April, 2021 on her own expense. From that point onward, the alleged is said to have acted as her pimp. He also took the majority of her earnings.
The woman was sent to Brussels where the alleged acted as her pimp again. He also arranged for the sale of cocaine to his clients through the woman. After she returned to Antwerp, she expressed her will to no longer work as a prostitute.
Consequently, the defendant pulled out a knife and threatened to hurt her warning that she had to continue at least until 1st July, 2021 or else he would cut up her face and send her “home in pieces.” Under pressure from the 31-year-old Romanian, the 20-year-old travelled with him by bus from Antwerp to Salzburg on 20th April, 2021.
According to the indictment, the 20-year-old refused to earn money through prostitution upon which the alleged hit her face with the back of his hand, punched her in the stomach and kicked her in the back.
Followed by additional slaps, the woman suffered painfully brutal bruises and a lacerated lip. She was again threatened with a knife to be killed should she go to the police or stop prostituting herself.
The pimp is said to have offered sexual services of the 20-year-old woman as a “discount” to a car salesman. In fact, the woman had to have sexual intercourse with the salesman against her will, according to her statement.
The 31-year-old pimp wanted to travel to Switzerland from Salzburg with the young woman on 27th April, 2021.
The woman got to see the knife again shortly before the Bavarian border. The pimp threatened to “kill” her should he be arrested.
The two were apprehended by the police at the Bad Reichenhall motorway border crossing at which point the defendant was found to be carrying marijuana with him. He was arrested.
The defense attorney, Hans- Jörg Schwarzer from Berchtesgaden, has emphasized that, “My client says he is innocent.”
The 31-year-old Romanian has had a relationship with the young woman. He did not force her into prostitution nor did he injure her.
The defendant also stated that what the witness described was “fictitious.”
The judge maintained that the witness has injuries that correspond to the blows and kicks she described.
Against this, the defendant stated that the 20-year-old hit the steering wheel twice while the car was braking. She injured her foot getting out of the car. She also hit her back against an open window in the bathroom.
He also maintained that she is prone to getting bruises easily. Lastly, the 31-year-old defended that he lived on savings during the period in consideration.
Everyone involved in the prosecution process was skeptical. Associate judge, Norbert Pollok insisted that the defendant considers sticking to his statements.
Playing the court for a fool would not work. The judge also clarified that lying with impunity would get the defendant nowhere and the witness will tell the truth when facing severe punishment. A confession will be of great value.
After a consultation break, the 31-year-old maintained that he was innocent.
Presiding judge, Christina Braune demanded the witness to be summoned but she did not appear. Therefore, the evidence was formed on the basis of their assessment.
The accused’s assertion that the witness had a considerable criminal record in Romania before she left was disavowed by the Chief Public Prosecutor, Dr. Martin Freudling, after a phone call during the break. It was found that the 20-year-old has no criminal record.
The forensic medial expert, Dr. Fritz Priemer from Wonneberg, examined the 20-year-old at the time, promptly. It was found that she had “severe discoloration” in many places on her body.
The defendant mocked at the findings of Dr. Priemer on Friday, which reported extremely painful bruising as a result of heavy violence. The injury to the back was “abstractly life-threatening.” The expert recollected a sentence the 20-year-old uttered, “If he finds me, I’ll be dead.”
The psychiatric assessor, Dr. Stefan Gerl from the district clinic in Gabersee, attested that the defendant was fully guilty and – despite traces of drugs according to the report – no addictions were found.
The Austrian police have recently made three arrests against a Romanian prostitution gang in Austria. The three people who were arrested forced more than 20 women into prostitution in Vienna and other Austrian cities. Romanian pimping gang forced women into prostitution
Three suspects have been currently arrested on the charges of human trafficking. The two men and one woman from Romania who were arrested have been forcing at least 24 women into prostitution and taking their earnings from them. The women who were forced to sell their bodies were mainly from Moldova and it is suspected that they have been forced since mid-2020.
Austrian police raid on apartments
The Austrian police have carried out eight house searches and successfully made three arrests. The three Romanian gang members who were arrested confessed to the crime during interrogation. The police also found evidence against them in the apartments and seized tens of thousands of euros in cash and valuables. The three gang members have been taken into custody and await their trial. Additionally, there are three more suspects who might have a link to the Romanian human trafficking gang. These suspects are currently being investigated.

Another 24-year-old woman fell victim to violence by a pimp who threatened her with a knife. It happened in Wieden-Vienna where the 39-year-old-guy got arrested after the friend of the sex worker called the police. The pimp brought the 24-year-old to Austria and forced her into prostitution, which is way too common in Austria and in many other European countries.
She Called Her Friend Right After the Incident
The 24-year-old prostitute managed to lock herself in a room, away from the 39-year-old pimp where she called her friend. The friend then immediately called the police and they arrived shortly after. According to police spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim, the 39-year-old pulled out a jackknife and threatened to stab her.
This all happened in Graf-Starhemberg-Gasse, in a place which was rented for sex work. The pimp tried to leave but the police caught him as he was about to get away. The police suspects that the 39-year-old enabled the woman to enter Austria and then forced her into prostitution.
At one point, the girl decided she does not want to work for the pimp anymore and packed her stuff in the apartment. That is when they got into an argument. The police are still investigating the background of the story because the victim did not speak up yet.
Usually, the police give the victim some time before asking further questions.
The Pimp Received a Gun Ban as a Result
After further investigation, the police found the jackknife in the pimp’s vehicle. As a result, he ended up getting a provisional gun ban. They also found out that the 36-year-old is Romanian. Currently, it is up to the Vienna Public Prosecuto’s Office to take the case one step further.
