    Hungarian band sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison for robbing elderly men

    The Vienna Regional Court concluded a trial on Monday, sentencing two prostitutes and their accomplice to long prison terms for a series of robberies targeting elderly, single men. From late September to late November 2023, the group arranged sex meetings through dating platforms and robbed their victims during house escort.

    They got a total of 30 years in prison

    A 43-year-old woman received an eight-year sentence, a 28-year-old woman was sentenced to nine years, and a 53-year-old man, who organized the crimes, was given a 13-year sentence. As the judge said, the crimes were carefully planned and they were committed in order to rip off the clients instead of providing the ordered sexual services.

    The sentences are final, and both the prosecutor and the defense accepted them. The sentences were for multiple counts of aggravated robbery and criminal association. The defendants got serious punishment because they targeted elderly men and the 28-year-old woman and the man already had similar previous criminal records.

    The Hungarian gang used fake profiles on dating platforms, showing much younger, attractive women. In six cases, the two women visited their victims together, while in four cases the 43-year-old woman was alone.

    When they worked in pairs, one of them distracted the client’s attention, while the other girl searched the rooms and took the valuables. In one case, they even stole a 60-kg safe.

    During their activities, they stole cash and jewelry worth around 70,000 euros. They worked in Vienna, Linz, Wels, and villages in Burgenland.

    As an interesting fact, the well-known Viennese burglar Ernst Walter Stummer was also one of their victims. The two women robbed him on October 4, 2023.

    One of the women distracted the interest of the 85-year-old man, while the other woman put a drug in his champagne. After he fell asleep, the two women found only 50 euros and a wristwatch.

    As we mentioned, the gang also lived in a complicated relationship with each other. The 53-year-old man had a relationship with the younger woman since 2018. In 2022, he moved to Linz with the other woman, but shortly afterward, the younger woman also followed them, and they lived together.

    At the beginning of the trial, the young woman was pregnant by the 53-year-old man.

    One thing is sure, these places all have legal licenses from authorities, and the girls who work there also have their own licenses for work.

    Authorities check the places very often, and in case of finding a girl without a license or health checks, they can close the brothel for a longer period of time as well. Of course, these places are owned by well-known local or international companies or families. You won’t find criminals or gangs in the background at the best high-class brothels in Vienna.

It is not a question that you won’t find such minors in the brothels in Vienna, even the shadiest ones won’t risk this because there are very strict consequences for the sexual exploitation of minors in Austria.

    In the past years, we reported a few cases where underage girls were involved in prostitution. These cases were mainly from Germany, for example, from Argau, where a customer reported a girl who seemed to be too young to work in the brothel. There were other cases, which were related to illegal bands, who forced illegally trafficked ladies into forced prostitution. Overall, these cases are very rare and from the world of illegal bands. We can confidently say that you won’t find underage sex workers in Viennese brothels, neither in the high-class ones nor in the tiniest sex studios.

    “GLOBAL CHAIN” focused on dismantling high-risk criminal networks involved in sexual exploitation, forced criminality, and forced begging. This year’s operation built on the successes of previous iterations, with a specific emphasis on breaking down the most dangerous criminal organizations within the EU, including mafia-type, ethnic, and family-based groups.

    Authorities across participating nations conducted targeted activities, extensively cooperating to underscore the severity of human trafficking. The collaboration extended beyond law enforcement to include various stakeholders dedicated to reducing the number of trafficking victims.

    Impressive outcomes and significant cases

    The operation yielded impressive outcomes, identifying 362 suspects, seizing 2,074 criminal assets, and detecting 363 fraudulent documents. Additionally, 276 new investigations were launched as a result of the week-long activities.

    Several notable cases highlighted the operation’s impact:

    • Hungary: Police arrested a couple for exploiting their own children for sex and forced begging.
    • Romania: Authorities detained a suspect who recruited minors for begging and sexual exploitation.
    • Ukraine: Police dismantled a criminal group forcing individuals to beg and arranged fraudulent marriages.
    • Vietnam: Authorities uncovered a scheme where victims were coerced into financial scams.

    Coordinated effort and future implications

    The operation’s success was facilitated by a coordination center at Frontex headquarters in Warsaw, Poland, ensuring efficient data exchange and collaboration. The global effort was also supported by the EU4FAST project, further enhancing the fight against human trafficking.

    Participating countries spanned Europe, Asia, and the Americas, with agencies such as Europol, Frontex, and INTERPOL playing pivotal roles in the operation.

    This global initiative underscored the critical importance of international cooperation in combating human trafficking, demonstrating that no country is immune to this crime. The joint efforts have not only brought perpetrators to justice but also provided essential support and protection to numerous victims worldwide.

    A 30-year-old man from the Oberland region faced legal consequences after making threats against the owner of a sex club. In September 2023, the defendant posted several vulgar messages in the guestbook of the club, directed at the owner. The messages included threats of violence, stating that he would shoot the owner of the club.

    The accused, who is unemployed, explained during the trial that he felt defrauded by the club.

    He claimed to have spent approximately 400,000 euros in the sex club and an associated casino, alleging that he was overcharged by about 150,000 euros. He stated that, on multiple occasions, he was billed for more drinks than he had actually consumed.

    The court acknowledged the defendant’s mental impairment, which was presented as evidence during the proceedings.

    In his defense, the man asserted that his threats were an attempt to recover the money he believed he was owed. However, this resulted in criminal charges rather than restitution.

    During the trial, the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges. In response, the judge fined him 320 euros but did not give him a criminal record. The judge advised the defendant to refrain from similar behavior in the future, warning that any further offenses would result in more severe legal consequences.
