According to a recent news article published by Der Standard, financial security is often just a distant dream for many sex workers who had no other choice but to work illegally during lockdowns. Since the work conditions are not under control, prostitution often becomes precarious, to say the least.
Debates are going on and on about making sex work legal again since the Covid pandemic became prevalent all around the World. One lockdown came after the other as the situation gradually improved, yet prostitution remains strongly regulated because of the body-to-body nature of the services.
Brothels have closed their doors and there was no more intimacy allowed in the form of paid sex. This was a hard pill to swallow for the currently 1,100 registered prostitutes in Vienna. Only 2 percent of them are Austrians, while the rest of them are foreigners mainly from Romania.
As a legal job, prostitution falls into the self-employed category. They need to pay a flat tax through their brothel without even having a tax number. As a result, they cannot prove their own income and are not entitled to financial support.
The Swedish Model of Prostitution
The aforementioned issue is one of the reasons why many critical voices speak up with the goal to stop prostitution in Austria. But what would happen to those, now legal sex workers who would be affected by such decision?
Actually, the initiative that aims to ban sex works answers yes to this question. According to them, prostitution is linked with severe emotional and physical violence more often than not. The Feminist Discourse Association and Solwodi, a religious aid organization both stand behind this initiative.
If their idea would be put in practice, it would mean that everyone who wants to buy sex would make themselves liable to prosecution. In that case, sex workers would not be held liable at all. Sweden is a great example for this. Since 1999, their way of controlling sex work is to punishing customers who pay for it.
Since then, Iceland and Norway took the same approach. It recently became prevalent in Europe as well with France pursuing the same strategy since 2016. It is now widely called as the Nordic Model and it sheds a light on why making sex work illegal is not the best approach.
According to Wolfgang Langer from the Department for Prostitution Matters of the Vienna State Police, a ban only results in sex workers starting to work illegally, which is why it is better to just control it. It is exactly why there are currently a lot of prostitutes working in illegal apartments.
Illegal Prostitutes Take Away Clients from Brothels
It is completely off the scope of the government and prostitutes working illegally are not safe at all. There is a lot more pressure on them and violence is not uncommon either. Currently, there are countless sex workers available online who work illegally.
They upload their photos with their phone number while keeping their address hidden. The police also uses those websites and platforms for their investigations.
According to Diana, a transsexual woman who comes from Columbia, these sex workers are taking away the customers of legal brothels. She currently leads a sex bar in the second district. Working in a bar like hers is much safer than working illegally.
There are security cameras and the ladies are only able to work with a green card, which proves their successful health check. Legal sex workers need to go through a health check every six weeks at the Vienna Center for Sexual Health.
For Diana, a sex work ban would be a disaster, as it is her full-time job. She pays taxes for it and being able to work legally is what will pave the way for her toward pension. Christine Nagl from the Pia counseling center for sex workers in Salzburg also spoke up on the situation.
Although proponents argue that no women would voluntarily become prostitutes, Christine is strongly against the prostitution ban. She says that there is no way to judge other people’s voluntariness, which is true. From a social counselor’s standpoint, a prostitution ban would be a violation of human rights.
“It is only part of their sexual identity if they want to live and work as prostitutes” Says Nagl.
All We Need is Criminal Code
According to Christian Knappik from Sexwork.at, there are constraints that should remain undisputed when it comes to prostitution. This is based on a penal code, whereas indirectly sanctioning sex workers is not the right approach in his opinion.
He also says that it is immature to assume that sex workers don’t work voluntarily and that the opinion that prostitution should be banned is often racist. After all, most sex workers are immigrants and the assumption that all of them are externally forced into sex work is wrong.
The current political standpoint is that Austria is not going to ban people from buying sex. According to the Federal Chancellery, there should be enough legal work opportunities which also need to be regulated. This was said in 2018, as they realized that sex work simply can’t be avoided.
The demand is high and the prostitution scene needs proper job descriptions. Shiva Prugger, a dominatrix working in a studion in Ottakring also spoke up on the matter. She wanted to make sex workers heard and started a sex work association.
Shiva Prugger’s main goal is to de-stigmatize the profession. It became obvious to her that politicians do their best to avoid using the word “sex work”, as if they would dirty themselves with it.
The Vienna Mayor Does Not Care about Sex Workers
During a press conference, Mayor Michael Ludwig was asked whether brothels would open on May 19th. His answer was that he is not knowledgeable in that area. Prugger says that there are around 300 approved brothels in Vienna.
The fact that the mayor simply does not want to think about that many jobs is pretty astonishing. What Ludwig’s reaction says is that politicians are not concerned about the situation at all. Prugger wants prostitutes not only to become more visible to the government but also to have a say in drafting prostitution laws.
Knappik from Sexwork.at hopes that laws regarding sex work will be revised, as social workers and street workers have a lot in common legally. He also says that the fact that prostitution has its own legislation is what basically stigmatizes it.
Maybe it would have been better to abolish prostitution laws entirely. Police registration also stigmatizes prostitutes in his opinion, as they have to deal with far-reaching consequences when they decide to change careers. This is also why many sex workers avoid registering themselves to the police and start working illegally instead.
Sex work should be something you can write in your résumé without being stigmatized. That is when we would be able to say that sex work is a real profession – according to Nagl.
Sometimes when you have some time on your hands, one can become a little over-ambitious and I guess, this weekend I was guilty of exactly that. Azra’s pictures are 100% real
Azra in the flesh: the pictures in her ad are definitely 100% real and recent. She is a very good-looking human being and very polite and overall pleasant. Her German skills, though, are pretty bad and so is probably her English.

The building was pretty much worn down and had no appeal for the clients so it had no other functionality than being there for backup.
Malisha Got Closed and Won’t Reopen
Another thing that happened in Vienna is that Malisha, the studi got closed. They moved out from their high-profile location, which was next to the Mayor’s office just one address away. It seems like they were not able to survive the corona lockdown.
Although the Malisha website is still live, you can’t find any information there anymore and it will probably go down soon.
Vienna Sex Sites got Attacked by Hackers
Seems like some hackers have found their new targets, as many Vienna-related sex sites went offline in the past couple of days. Sites like Laufhaus Vienna, Laufhaus Kontakt-Zentrum, Laufhaus Juchgasse, Laufhaus Zollgasse and Peepshow Burggasse all felt victim to the DdoS attacks.
But that’s not all, as portals like Booksusi and Sexmagazin were also down because of the cyber attack. People weren’t able to check out what’s new on Booksusi for 3-4 days. Sexmagazin, on the other hand, has a hard time getting back online as their website only showed up for a couple of hours after the attack, then went off again.
The reason behind the hacker attack? We don’t know exactly but it seems like they are going to continue the DDoS attack for a while.
Was the DDoS Attack Actually Ransomware?
It is often the case that when cyber criminals attack certain sites, all they want is ransom. Now, hacking sites is a criminal case in of itself but if they are doing it for ransom, it is even worse. However, there is not much evidence on this so we still need to wait and see how things turn out.
There are other sites that can call themselves lucky such as Babylon, Maxim Wien, Bijou Escort and other escort sites because they weren’t targeted by the attacks.
The Piano Bar in Vienna has recently been closed and reopened again under a different brand. The bar now goes by the Manhattan Bar brand, which was previously considered a more successful name.

In case you are unaware, Piano Bar wasn’t the most successful businesswise in recent years. Because of this, the management has decided to close down and try their luck with the more successful brand of Manhattan Bar.
According to our knowledge not much is going to change, but at this time we cannot say anything for certain. We speculate that the bar in Vienna will offer around the same number of ladies, but it wouldn’t surprise us if they spice things up and hire a couple of new girls to attract guests.
However, since the owners remain the same, we suppose there won’t be too many big changes incoming in the bar. The Manhattan Bar used to be located around Westbahnhof and it was considered to be a rather successful business.

Three suspects have been currently arrested on the charges of human trafficking. The two men and one woman from Romania who were arrested have been forcing at least 24 women into prostitution and taking their earnings from them. The women who were forced to sell their bodies were mainly from Moldova and it is suspected that they have been forced since mid-2020.
Austrian police raid on apartments
The Austrian police have carried out eight house searches and successfully made three arrests. The three Romanian gang members who were arrested confessed to the crime during interrogation. The police also found evidence against them in the apartments and seized tens of thousands of euros in cash and valuables. The three gang members have been taken into custody and await their trial. Additionally, there are three more suspects who might have a link to the Romanian human trafficking gang. These suspects are currently being investigated.

What would you advise those Girls who want to start their sex work carrier in Vienna? Where or how do they start?
I would advise them before they even start, they have to think hard if they really love sex and just then to decide what kind of sex service they want to provide because there are many palces, a few sauna clubs and a few night clubs and the work is quite different everywhere.

When did you decide to enter the porn industry? What made you like the idea of becoming a porn star?

Since March 2020, I have archived quite a lot in marketing strategies and planning, created an amazing team, started the erotic online e-magazine called Diamonds Production dedicated to modern lifestyle, erotics, traveling, business, art and history. I have also made 25 movies.
Now, in July we start releasing one movie weekly, and from August or September, two movies weekly. We‘ve had a lot of fun since March last year.

The corona virus pandemic took full effect right when you started your first shootings. Did the pandemic cause difficulties in your porn carrier? Did you have to change your plans?
Yes, the pandemic cost me a lot in my carrier in terms of traveling, also I had difficultes in arranging documents because mine were stolen and the embassy was closed, I had to turn my plans 180 degrees round and make them even better. In the end, it brought me more success than loss!
Can you share with us some moments from the shootings that you are proud of?
Of course I can! I am always proud after we make crazy good movies like with Pierre Woodman in Budapest, when he surprised me and I had my first gangbang in my life with four guys.

The ultimate goal I want to reach is an interesting topic and we will need longer time to talk about it. Besides, I prefer keeping some secrets for the future. One of the goals for the near future is to participate in the porn film festival 2022 and some other contests in Europe and to complete the movie projects we are planing at Diamonds Production.
Was it important that you already had a successful sex-worker and an escort-girl career in Vienna? Did it help a lot in starting your porn career?

Another 24-year-old woman fell victim to violence by a pimp who threatened her with a knife. It happened in Wieden-Vienna where the 39-year-old-guy got arrested after the friend of the sex worker called the police. The pimp brought the 24-year-old to Austria and forced her into prostitution, which is way too common in Austria and in many other European countries.
She Called Her Friend Right After the Incident
The 24-year-old prostitute managed to lock herself in a room, away from the 39-year-old pimp where she called her friend. The friend then immediately called the police and they arrived shortly after. According to police spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim, the 39-year-old pulled out a jackknife and threatened to stab her.
This all happened in Graf-Starhemberg-Gasse, in a place which was rented for sex work. The pimp tried to leave but the police caught him as he was about to get away. The police suspects that the 39-year-old enabled the woman to enter Austria and then forced her into prostitution.
At one point, the girl decided she does not want to work for the pimp anymore and packed her stuff in the apartment. That is when they got into an argument. The police are still investigating the background of the story because the victim did not speak up yet.
Usually, the police give the victim some time before asking further questions.
The Pimp Received a Gun Ban as a Result
After further investigation, the police found the jackknife in the pimp’s vehicle. As a result, he ended up getting a provisional gun ban. They also found out that the 36-year-old is Romanian. Currently, it is up to the Vienna Public Prosecuto’s Office to take the case one step further.

The red light is officially switched on in Berlin after seven months of stagnation. Brothels have opened their doors, although sex workers and clients are still not allowed to have sexual intercourse. Right now, services such as bondage, erotic massages and similar are allowed.
According to the decision made by the Senate, only one client is allowed to be present per sex worker. An appointment has to be made beforehand in every case.
Services that are Still Not Allowed
The government still does not allow sexual intercourse, gang bang parties and facial practices such as kissing. Clients can enter only after showing a negative test and wearing a medical mask is also mandatory. The mask has to be on throughout the whole session for the client and the sex worker as well.
Of course, in the case of oral sex, women can take off their mask. Meanwhile, safety measures need to be followed in order to prevent infection. In Berlin, these rules are not quite precise at the moment, at least compared to the standards of the health administration.
Update: On June 15, the rules have changed. Brothels and prostitutes in general are not allowed to provide oral sex at all. None of the services that are close to the face are allowed. Rules and regulations can differ in each federal state but at least the situation allows sex workers to work without huge limitations.
Things are not bright for prostitutes in Switzerland, as there is literally no way for them to prosper in a way that is legal. The association that deals with woman migration and human trafficking (FIZ) does its best to help the women in question, although they can’t do much.
Lelia Hunziker, the director of the organization said that violence currently prevails among sex workers. They do their best to give advice to sex workers in need. FIZ has advised twice as many women in 2020 than in 2019. Sex workers are in an existential crisis right now and they don’t know what to do.
Many of them have no savings left and live in suboptimal circumstances. Things are especially tough for those who have no acquaintances to rely on. In March 2020, the lockdown forced prostitution to a halt and not much has changed since then.
A Large Number of Sex Workers are Not Getting State Aid
The Swiss government gave people the opportunity to receive state aid, although many prostitutes are not in the situation to get it. A large number of sex workers are temporary residents and also haven’t gone through the 90-day reporting process that would have ensured them a work permit.
Even those women who have the right for social aid have issues with visiting the social welfare office. Many of them would risk losing their permanent residence permit by doing so. Dependency on social welfare also means that the office can take away their residence permit.
Of course, most sex workers don’t want to risk their right to live in Switzerland and would rather avoid these complications. Meanwhile, sex work is still stigmatized there which puts prostitutes into an even worse situation.
Illegal Sex Work is Often the Only Option
The women who decide to stay in Switzerland often have no other chance but to start working illegally. There are a number of more fortunate cases where they started working legally as masseuses or physiotherapistst.
However, working in illegality is still dominant. Exploitation and violence is not uncommon at all, as the client has the advantage. There is no way to control the situation and it can even lead to forced unprotected sex.
This can not only result in sex workers spreading sexually transmitted diseases but also in them becoming pregnant.
Jobs Including Close Physical Contact are Allowed Except Prostitution
When Covid has started its rapid spread, the best thing to do was to ban all jobs that include close physical contact. These measures were fair during the first wave, although they became rather unreasonable during the second wave.

Also, an increasing number of people get vaccinated which means that it became less risky to offer sexual services. Right now, the professional association for erotic and sexual services (BesD) tries to bring the focus to lifting the prostitution ban.
Many Prostitutes are Still Struggling after the Lockdown

Johanna Weber, spokeswomen of the association for erotic and sexual sevices emphasized the fact that the situation needs to be fixed in the other federal states as well.
Johanna Ebeling from the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung emphasized that sex workers deserve equal treatment. Her opinion was that it would be okay to allow brothels to reopen and welcome clients with negative tests. The testing concept and nationwide uniform hygiene measures are all ready.
June 18 is going to be a bit of a relief for sex workers as services without sexual intercourse are going to be allowed again.
Sex Workers Demand Fair Treatment from the Government
The main problem here is that prostitutes feel mistreated by the government in Germany. Many other body-to-body services are allowed as the Covid situation became less serious, while the paysex scene is still stagnating. Physiotherapy, beer gardens and massage parlors are already open.
After the first lockdown, the prostitution ban was lifted in Berlin because two court cases were won. A domina studio and a massage parlor initiated both cases and winning them successfully accelerated the process.
The results were convincing, as sex workers were initially allowed to offer massages. It took only 14 days for the government to allow sexual intercourses as well. Now sex workers are waiting for brothels or institutions to take action in a similar way.
The Reason Why Illegal Prostitution is on the Rise in Germany
Currently, many prostitutes are forced into illegality in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hamburg and Saarland. The situation got slightly better when many of them have received Corona aid and unemployment benefits. Since about 40,000 men and women are registered as sex workers, there are still a lot of people who are struggling.
This is all because, according to Johanna Ebeling, politicians are hypocritical and their stance is based on moral reasons. In her opinion, there are no other reasons not to open brothels. Politicians need to rather focus on the fact that legal sex work ensures safety against violence and blackmail.
Meanwhile, Austria handles the situation in an exemplary manner. Although the measures there vary from one federal state to the other, sexual intercourse is allowed. There are health measures that everyone has to follow but it is completely reasonable since the risk of Covid has to be respected.
