Recently we are seeing more people calling for the ban of prostitution, saying that women are exploited and that the current situation is bad for them. However, facts show a different picture.

SOPHIE is an advice center for sex workers in Austria that also helps the ladies with whatever is necessary. They offer consultations for sex workers anonymously and at no cost, they give basic supplies and anything that’s needed for the women to start working legally. Their main goal is to protect women who are in the legal sex trade, fight for their rights and provide them with better and safer working conditions.

The head of the organization has stated that they are 100% against the ban on legal sex work, as this would only introduce a plethora of different problems for the ladies. Naturally, stopping prostitution entirely is almost impossible and if legal sex work would be banned, the whole sex trade business would go underground.

This would mean that the women who had to work illegally couldn’t ask for help and they would be exploited even more by pimps and human traffickers.

Assaults on sex workers by customers are on the rise, so this would get out of hand without protection as well.

Julia Köhl, the head of the SOPHIE counseling center added that they still require donations as many sex workers had huge monetary losses this year due to various factors. Currently, many women require the help from humanitarian organizations and food donations, among other things.

Recently we’ve noticed multiple negative trends that some establishments, as well as individual girls are using to either get more money from their clients or exploit them somehow. This is having a negative effect on the sex scene in Vienna and clients are outraged about it on online platforms.

Another problem that has been around for many years is the fact that many independently working women use fake or overly enhanced images of themselves online. These independent women usually advertise on online platforms where the images are not really being filtered. Since these sites usually do not have a very good editorial team, many fake pictures are being used. Because of this, the women can simply upload any photo and use it as their own.

This can trick a lot of clients into booking a meeting, only to find out that a completely different girl greets them when they arrive to the meeting.

Thankfully this isn’t a popular trend among business owners, it’s rather typical of women who work independently and advertise online.

The third and last negative trend that we are seeing recently is being used by women who work in clubs, bars and other adult entertainment venues. Some of the ladies are trying to get the private number of the clients that they meet in clubs. This is something that should be avoided at all costs if you are visiting Viennese clubs. Some of the reasons why we highly advise against giving your private number to working girls include:

• Clients who give out their private numbers are usually considered by the girls to be their ATM and not a private friend or sex partner
• Clients’ numbers usually get into the possession of other girls or even pimps
• Clients have been threatened to pay ransom after they gave their number – the police are also involved, but it is definitely better to avoid this problem altogether

We advise all of our readers to pay attention to the above listed things and try to avoid them if possible. Unfortunately clients who are not that experienced in the sex scene are the biggest targets of these trends.

The driver of the deceased is now also being checked after a sex worked was murdered in Upper Austria in September and a 34-year-old admitted to the crime.

The district prosecutor’s office opened multiple investigations into the driver who had taken the sex worker, 23, to her client after she was killed in Ternberg (Steyr-Land region) at the end of September.

A representative for the Steyr public prosecutor verified a story in ORF Upper Austria at the beginning of October that it concerns the possibility of pimping. The suspected offender is still being held.

The 23-year-old Romanian was invited inside the residence by the 34-year-old, who had previously been found not guilty. Evidently, there was a disagreement over the cost. Based on the autopsy, the suspect male beat the young woman so severely that she choked on blood and vomit and died.

Research results revealed that the 24-year-old driver was most likely also the Romanian’s pimp. On the evening of September 24, he had driven her to the date and had remained in the vehicle parked in front of the apartment complex before leaving. The deceased woman was found in the flat by Cobra cops late on September 25 and the suspect submitted to being led away without opposition.

By that point, the Romanian’s concerned friends had contacted the local authorities. Complaints have been made that the executive did not react properly. The investigation from the Federal Office for the Prevention and Control of Corruption, which examines criminal significance, has not yet been received by the Steyr public prosecutor’s office. According to the prosecution’s spokeswoman, there is merely an early suspicion. If genuine inquiries are made, they would not be carried out by the Steyr public prosecutor’s office because they would be aimed at individuals from the accountable judicial district.

Sarah, a sex worker, is fighting for laws to prevent the disposal of sex services and is concerned about sex work being illegal.

Make it legal or keep it illegal?  These are the different viewpoints in the discussions around sex work. Many feminists and sex workers reject the so-called “Nordic model” even though outlawing does not mean that sex workers themselves are penalized for providing sexual services, but rather the “sex purchase” – as in Sweden, Norway, or France.

Sarah, a 23-year-old sex worker, feels that marches against prostitution, like those that occurred in Spain at the end of May, jeopardize her freedom to do her job.

Many professionally prepared sex workers who connect and view their employment as a vocation, like Sarah, are the rare sex workers who speak about their work openly.

Sarah was asked why she become a sex worker and she told her parents that the sex industry was a point of interest for her since the age of 14.

She was developing the plan for years and recently risked practicing it while studying for two bachelor’s degrees and also working for a publishing company. For her, sex work is more than just a career, it is a calling.

Sarah first started this on Tinder, where guys would take her out to dinner, then tried sugar dating. When it comes to this, you sell also emotional services, not only erotic. But she didn’t enjoy it, so 6 months ago started to work for herself as a noble escort woman.

The interviewer asked if she could know exactly what she wants after this short period, but Sarah had a strong opinion about this, which is only something wonderful about intimacy.

For her, this is not just a task that anyone can perform, but a different way to view the beauty where all bodies are attractive, and this kind of sexual interaction is quite rewarding.

As a noble escort woman, she goes with the clients to events, lunches, and hotel rooms. Mostly selling her time, rather than the multiple sexual services and this is not expensive.

Some of her coworkers may only charge 25 or 40 euros per hour, but for this kind of service, there should be a law where the least price is 150 euros.

Women who earn more if they are younger and look like models, also if they have college degrees, but good advertising will help to escape the low-price segment.

Sarah is involved in the BSO – Professional Association for Sex Work in Austria where everyone collaborates helps each other and coordinates political campaigns. It is grossly understated how much prejudice sex workers face daily.

Because of this job, it was hard for her to obtain even a tax counselor and frequently receive offensive messages from strangers, and colleagues from the university who no longer acknowledge her. However, choosing to work with people for sex was a major life decision for her. Now that sex work is finally being accepted by society, Sarah is confident she can live her life accordingly.

She will change the law regarding having HIV in a lifetime prohibition, as well as the ads where the woman advertising that they do not use condoms and that society should be more aware of STDs.

Sarah is afraid that if the Nordic model will be approved, the women will have more to suffer, even if only customers are punished.

Sex workers are not permitted to rent residences for their business; therefore, they are denied safe working conditions. Although prostitution will never be outlawed, safe working conditions for sex workers may be guaranteed.
