Vienna is facing a serious scandal after reports that donations collected by a Diyanet mosque were not used for religious purposes, but instead spent on escort services and parties.

According to the Turkish newspaper Sözcü, the investigation has been running for five years. Money from pilgrimages, offerings, the sale of religious books, and even funeral services was allegedly redirected to fund parties. Reports claim that at least four women were hired for an orgy.
Two senior officials of the Turkish-Islamic Union in Austria (ATIB) have already been forced to step down. The Diyanet explained the dismissals as a result of “indiscipline and incompetence.” However, Sözcü reported that one of the men involved is related to a former minister of Turkey’s ruling AKP party.
To cover up the expenses, they were reportedly listed under fake categories such as “residence permit fees,” “rent,” or “imam costs.” Inspectors who tried to look into the case were allegedly bribed with trips and leisure offers.
The scandal has also sparked political debate in Austria. The Freedom Party (FPÖ) accused the government of failing at every level to monitor such organizations. Both in Austria and Turkey, pressure is growing for a full investigation and for all details of the scandal to be uncovered.

Authorities in Linz achieved again a great success in the fight against illegal prostitution. Police and city officials said four locations used for illegal sex work were shut down after a coordinated operation.
Illegal sex workers are working in private apartments
Similarly to Vienna, many sex workers in Linz are working illegally in private apartments. Careful inquiries by the Linz city administration made it possible to identify and close four such sites during a joint raid nearly two weeks ago.
As part of the action, one person was charged with pimping and another with involvement in cross-border prostitution. Two people were also taken into custody for being in Austria illegally.
Officers also seized a forged Chinese passport and three grams of cocaine. The woman with the fake passport was charged, as was the man in possession of the drugs.
According to investigators, evidence points to Vienna, where the suspected mastermind behind the prostitution network is believed to be located.

A dating app scam turned deadly in Austria when a young man was killed by a car after trying to rob someone he met online. Police say the 24-year-old from Vienna died when he was thrown from a moving vehicle going over 100 km/h.
The victim created a fake profile on a Sugardaddy site
The victim was having money problems and came up with a plan to make easy cash. He created a fake profile on the dating site My Sugardaddy and pretended to be a young woman named Sara. He used photos of a real woman that he found on the internet.
His 22-year-old girlfriend helped with the plan. She later told police that her boyfriend wanted to earn money without having to do much work. The dating site is where older men pay young women for dates and walks.
The meeting went deadly wrong
The fake Sara profile quickly got attention from a man in his 30s from Lower Austria. They agreed to meet on February 21st at a train station. The man brought €2,000 in cash as promised.
But when he arrived, there was no Sara. Instead, he saw the victim’s girlfriend waiting nearby. She looked nothing like the photos and stayed far away while sending him messages to try to get him out of his car.
The man got suspicious and texted Sara that he was going home. That’s when the 24-year-old victim came out of hiding. He stood in front of the car with his arms out, trying to stop the driver from leaving.
The driver panicked. He later told police that he was very afraid of being robbed and just wanted to get away. He tried to drive around the man, but the victim jumped onto the hood of the car.
The man grabbed onto the roof and stuck his feet near the windshield wipers. The driver could only see the victim’s feet hanging over his windshield.
Instead of stopping the car, the driver kept going. He drove through roundabouts and streets while the man was still on his car. Police say he was driving over 100 km/h when the victim finally fell off and hit the ground.
The driver went home and didn’t call police or an ambulance. He said he didn’t think the man was badly hurt. The victim died from his injuries. The driver only called police the next day.
The driver faces murder charges
Now the driver faces murder charges. Prosecutors in St. Pölten confirmed that he could go to prison for killing the 24-year-old.
Lawyer Sascha Flatz represents the dead man’s family. He said it makes no sense why the driver sped up like that while a person was on his windshield fighting for his life.

The defendant first met the 15-year-old girl through a messaging app. The girl initially claimed to be 21 years old, then later said she was 18 when the man questioned her young appearance. The two began a sexual relationship.
During their relationship, the girl told him she had already been selling photos of herself online.
According to prosecutors, this gave the man the idea to have her work as a prostitute. He helped set her prices and created advertisements for her services.
The man also convinced the 15-year-old to recruit the 17-year-old girl so he could find clients for her as well.
The girls earned 2,700 euros, and they had to give half of it to the pimp
Prosecutors said the older girl earned 1,900 euros from four clients, while the 15-year-old received 800 euros for unprotected sex. Both girls allegedly had to give half their earnings to the man.
The defendant was also charged with rape and sexual coercion, but was found not guilty of these charges. The judge said the evidence showed the relationship was more like a love relationship rather than rape. She cited text messages the 15-year-old sent after the alleged assault, including “I miss you. I enjoyed having sex with you.”
The pimp first denied the charges
At his first court hearing in March, the man denied the pimping charges. But recently, he changed his plea and admitted guilt. He said to the court that he was very sorry for what happened. Unfortunately, he couldn’t undo it.
The man claimed he stopped everything once he learned the girl was actually underage.
Since the defendant had already served six months in jail while awaiting trial, he was released immediately after sentencing. The verdict is not yet final – both sides have time to appeal the decision.
