In April 2024, it was rumored that Freyenthurn Castle, perched above Klagenfurt, would be put up for sale. Now, it is officially confirmed that the castle is for sale. The estate offers 1,500 square meters of living space and spans 50 hectares. The asking price is estimated between 20 and 30 million euros, making it an attractive opportunity for prospective buyers.

Real estate agent Hansjörg Lenz from Engel & Völkers, known for his expertise in historical properties, is managing the sale. The castle, owned by Freyenthurn Immobilien AG in Vienna, is situated within a nature reserve and underwent a complete renovation in 2004.
The estate includes a 15,000-square-meter garden, a forest covering 39,000 square meters, and three natural swimming ponds spanning 7,270 square meters.
The Babylon Klagenfurt brothel has been operating at the castle since 2003, despite initial outrage from local citizens. Its proximity to the Italian border made it ideal to target Italian visitors, as prostitution laws in Italy are stricter.
The property currently operates as the Babylon brothel, an exclusive establishment primarily catering to guests from Italy.
The owner of Babylon Klagenfurt is currently renting the castle, and it remains unclear whether the brothel will reopen in another location within Klagenfurt or in the nearby area if the sale goes through. If sold, the brothel will vacate, leaving behind 29 suites, 16 bedrooms, 18 bathrooms, and 24 toilets available for future use and development.
Freyenthurn Castle presents several opportunities for redevelopment. It could be transformed into a health hotel, as it already has a license for a health spa.
Alternatively, the castle could be converted into a private residence or a romantic hotel. The property also features an existing restaurant on the ground floor, and its location near the Kreuzbergl nature area further enhances its appeal for various potential uses.
