A new study offers insight into how people in Austria think about sex and intimacy. The Sex Report 2026, published by Amorelie, looks at sexual habits, preferences, and attitudes across the country.
The report is based on a representative survey of nearly 600 women and men in Austria. It focuses on how often people have sex, which positions they prefer, and what they believe makes sex enjoyable.
A Change at the Top: Doggy Style Leads the Ranking
One of the most talked-about results is a change in the ranking of favorite sex positions. For the first time, doggy style is the most popular position in Austria.
According to the survey, 45 percent of respondents said doggy style is their favorite. The position is especially popular among women, where it ranks higher than any other option.
This marks a clear change from previous years, when another position usually held first place.
Although it is no longer number one, the missionary position is still widely liked. 39 percent of respondents said it remains one of their favorite positions.
The report shows an interesting difference between genders. While women also rate missionary highly, men ranked it as their top choice overall.
This suggests that even though preferences are changing, traditional positions continue to play an important role in Austrian bedrooms.
Cowgirl Position Takes Third Place
The cowgirl position, also known as the rider position, ranks third in the survey. It was chosen by 29 percent of participants.
The report notes that this position is slightly more popular among men than women. While it does not reach the top two, it remains a strong favorite for many couples.
Together, the top three positions show a mix of traditional and more dynamic preferences.
Masturbation Habits: When and Why
The Sex Report 2026 also looks at masturbation habits. According to the survey, people in Austria most often masturbate:
- Spontaneously during the day (50 percent)
- In the evening before falling asleep (48 percent)
These times were mentioned more often than mornings or planned moments.
When asked about the reasons for masturbation, the answers were clear.
- 50 percent said they do it for sexual pleasure
- 33 percent said it helps them reduce stress
This shows that masturbation is not only linked to desire, but also to relaxation and emotional balance.
What Makes Sex Good for Austrians
One of the most important parts of the report focuses on what people believe makes sex good.
The most common answer was not orgasm or performance. Instead:
- 54 percent said good sex means that everyone involved enjoys it, even if there is no orgasm
- 48 percent said feeling comfortable and good during sex is important
- 44 percent said emotional closeness plays a key role
These results suggest that many Austrians value connection and shared experience more than technical performance.

Shared Experience Over Pressure
The survey results show a clear trend. For many people in Austria, sex is less about pressure or expectations and more about mutual enjoyment.
The report highlights that emotional closeness, comfort, and shared pleasure are central to how people define satisfying sex today.
The Sex Report 2026 is based on a representative survey of almost 600 adults in Austria.
It provides an overview of current trends and changing attitudes toward sex and intimacy.
According to the publishers, the study aims to offer an open and factual look at how people experience their private lives.
