Hungarian couple arrested for running illegal brothel in Wels

Authorities have arrested a Hungarian couple accused of running an illegal brothel near the Wels train station and forced Hungarian women into prostitution. The police allege that the couple profited significantly from the exploitation of their victims.

The authorities discovered 2 victims in the brothel

After a few months of investigation, officers uncovered that the couple had been forcing two Hungarian women into prostitution from September last year until February 11. The women, who arrived from poor families from Hungary, were pressured into working at the brothel while the couple retained at least half of their earnings.

The operation led to the arrest of a 39-year-old Hungarian man in Wels under a European arrest warrant issued by Hungary. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying more than €7,000 in cash, which authorities suspect was obtained from the illegal business.

Upon raiding the brothel, officers discovered two women who reported being forced into working there. A 37-year-old Hungarian woman present at the scene was also taken into custody. According to the Wels Public Prosecutor’s Office, she had made tens of thousands of euros through the exploitation of the victims.

The arrested man has been transferred to the Wels correctional facility while investigations continue. Authorities are now working to determine the full extent of the operation and identify any additional individuals involved in the trafficking scheme.
